The WOD for Byrd Park on Saturday, 1/13

Is it almost Saturday already? Of course. And we've planned our most ambitious WOD yet:

In Fight Gone Bad style we will rotate every minute between five stations of:

Rope Climbs
Box Jumps
Tractor Tire Flips
Dumbbell Swings
Pull Ups

During the minute every athlete will attempt maximum repetitions at each station. After completing one minute at every stations we will rest for a minute. The athlete with the highest combined repetitions from the three rounds wins.

Sound good?

Meet us on Saturday in Byrd Park at 10am between the ropes and the pull up bars.

We ain't playin' with ya!

Have you gentlemen heard of active recovery? Among other things, this means you don't put movements that stress the same muscle groups adjacent to one another. The rope/pu and tire/DB swing are examples of pairings you want to avoid. A reasonable sequence (which is actually circular for FGB style wkouts) would be:
rope climb
tire flip
pull-up
DB swing
box jump

Robert: I appreciate your concern, and yes, we discussed this when putting together the workout. We had considered arranging the stations diferently, but I don't think it is an issue given that in the original "Fight Gone Bad", fairly similar leg movements are used for each exercise. Also, pull-ups and rope climbs, while similar, don't use all of the same muscles exactly same; just like if you were to change grips on your pull-ups to from underhand to overhand, you can usually do some more on one if you're burned out on the other. You also have the advantage of using your legs on the rope climbs. But this will be the first time we try this workout, and there is a certain degree of experimentation involved when creating your own workouts. We'll just have to see how it works. If you would like to discuss this further, I encourage you to e-mail us at crossfitlombardy@gmail.com. Better yet, come train with us, and see how it works for yourself!
